Salsa Dancing in San Francisco
By Carolina Peña
After four days of amazing views, delectable food and friendly people in San Francisco, I finally got to check out the salsa scene on Tuesday night. Everyone had pointed me to Glass Cat so I went and it sure did not disappoint me. There were skilled dancers, great live music, two performances by local teams and amid the crowds I found two amazing casineros, both from Peru! One of them was very involved and recommended Allego on Sundays Jelly's on the weekends and a popular timba party held on the last Friday of every month at El Tropi-Cal. In sharing cuentos and anecdotes about our salsa communities on the East and West coast, I could tell San Francisco has one of the, if not the best casino/timba scene, attracting over 100 dedicated people week in, week out. If anyone has a chance to visit the city, you can't miss dancing with this crowd.
