Joel is one of our 'old timers' in that he has been dancing rueda for years. And by years, we mean 10 which is quite awhile for people in the DC area. His experience has brought a lot to the SAOCO team.

Having grown up in Miami, Joel says that rueda was the most common form of salsa danced and he was exposed to it at an early age. He took classes with Salsa Lovers in Miami, Florida and continued with them through their Master level classes. Needless to say - not easy! Eventually, he found his way to the greatest college, University of Michigan, where he was a founding member of the MSalsa Rueda team which is still going strong! Paloma was also a member of this very team!

Having decided to join a team in the area, Joel researched and found SAOCO 'rocked'. SAOCO is thankful that he choose us - not only has he brought sabor, finesse and smooth moves, but, also crude Cuban terms for new moves! When not dancing with SAOCO, Joel can most likely be found on the golf course - his second love after his gorgeous wife Sonia (also a fabulous dancer). Also, he enjoys working out, traveling, and has recently become addicted to Guitar Hero for the Wii.
