Makiko

Makiko is our International Woman! Having been born in Basel, Switzerland, she is actually Japanese and a Japanese citizen. She spent ten years in California and New Jersey and then spent time in Japan until she left to attend Duke University.

While at Duke University, Makiko danced with Sabrosura, a dance company at the university. Having left there and moved to the DC Area, Makiko was looking for a group to join when she was "discovered" by Jennifer. She attended a rueda party and, thankfully for us, decided to join our group! Makiko brings experience in performing as well as some cool tricks and dips. Beyond salsa, Makiko enjoys dancing east coast swing and lindy hop and would like to learn more ballroom. In college, she took a course in flamenco and also danced ballet as a child (she claims she was terrible - hard to believe).

In her spare time, Makiko enjoys doing sudoku, kakuro, solitaire, and jigsaw puzzles. She also spends a lot of time reading, watching West Wing, and crocheting/knitting and going out with her cool boyfriend.
